Introduction to the Science of Hadith A Course on the Famous Text: “Al Bayquniyyah” The Matn al-Bayquniyyah is a timeless primer in poetry-form which is taught, and has been taught, to students for centuries. The fact that this classical ode has been graced with dozens of commentaries and annotations throughout the centuries stands as testimony to its value. Its rhyming nature, allows for easy memorization and it includes essential topics relating to hadith terminology for any student of Islam. In this seminar our guest teacher will read through the text and thoroughly explain its content. The course is introductory in nature and is designed to equip students with a familiarity with the parlance of Hadith Scholars, commonly refered to as Mustalah al-Hadith or Usul al-Hadith. This course is ideal for any individual wanting to understand the science of hadith. No previous knowledge is required. Shaykh Uwais began his studies in the conventional Maktabs scattered across England. During his secondary school, he enrolled in the newly established Jamiat al-Ilm Wa al-Huda in Blackburn. There he learnt tajwid, parts of the Qur’an, and went on to study the ‘Alim course for another two years. Upon his return from India, Shaykh Uwais enrolled in a postgraduate Islamic Studies course at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), from which graduated in the year 2008, His final dissertation, ‘Text Criticism (Naqd al-Mutun) in light of Imam Muslim’s Kitab al-Tamyiz’, reflects his primary interests.
